The Heart of Folkstone
Saturday  11-4pm

In Honour of William Harvey, born in Folkestone in 1578, who was the first to discover the circulation of the blood, which he wrote of in 'On the Movement of the Heart and Blood in Animals'  the Kent Cultural Baton will be attempting to discover the Heart of Folkstone through a one-day mapping project. Artist Nicole Mollett will be inviting participants to describe the town using the human circulation system as a metaphor for places and routes which can be taken. Gathered suggestion will inform a new artwork map of Folkestone.

GHost

From 26 June to 1 July GHost CLHub will install temporary headquarters in the Cultural Baton, where people will be able to visit, engage with and contribute to the ghostly archive. On display will be films by several of the artists working with GHost, publications, artefacts and illustrations in response to local ghost stories, and interactive information about the project. Visitors will also have the chance to acquire membership of GHost CLHub and take away GHostly souvenirs. A performance event on Sunday 26 June will mark the beginning of our residence at the Baton.

GHost is led by artist-curator Sarah Sparkes and lecturer-curator Ricarda Vidal.

Folkestone Street Atheletics

On Sunday June 3rd the Baton will be at the Folkstone Street Atheletics events on the Leas to launch the Folkestone Residency.
