On June 11th, over 100 colourful, crazy hobby horses will be tethered on Market Meadow, in Farningham village, the original site from 1270 to early this century of an ancient horse fair.

Early horse fairs were the highlight of village life and enabled a cross fertilization of cultures, materials and ideas.

Installation artists Franny Swann and Ros Barker have been recreating the fun of the ancient horse fairs. Working with village groups, schools and societies they have inspired hobbyhorses that reflect the personalities of village families and their organisations.

Come and marvel in the nostalgia and exuberance of the hobbyhorse spectacle on June 11th.

The Farningham Hobby Horse Project will then travel round Kent, returning to the village in 2012 with a photographic record of their adventures to be reunited with their owners and creators.
